...à la FAQ
Where am I?
This weblog is a collection of thoughts, news, and opinions about computers (and not only) from me. It's a space where I write about technology, the web, and life — a repository of ideas, photos, reflections, and other bits that complete the puzzle.
Take a stroll — something might catch your interest ;-)
Weblog?
…if it can even be called that. You could think of it as my personal newspaper, my sketchbook, a concise sniff of what I think and believe. But, uhm, this is not a diary!
Topics range from programming and commentary on developments in the tech world to news, culture, and sometimes philosophy.
About the Weblog
Can I comment on something you've written?
Absolutely! On this weblog, you're free to comment on anything I write. Please read the comment policy before posting.
But there are posts I can’t comment on!
Commenting is mostly disabled on older entries — it’s rarely useful to comment on outdated posts, and it helps maintain the coherence of the conversation, which tends to degrade over time.
Also, some posts are meant to inform, not to spark discussion — commenting might be disabled there too.
What powers this site?
The weblog is written in Perl and runs on Movable Type, is written in PHP and runs on WordPress is written in plain English & Greek and now a static site built with Pelican. Layout is done with CSS, without using tables. Most of the site is rendered in Verdana, while posts and comments use Georgia.
How do I link to a specific article?
If you want to link to a specific post rather than the whole weblog, use the permalink at the bottom of each post).
Please note that the material on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons Licence.
Is there an RSS (XML) feed?
Of course! The latest 10 posts are available via:
You can use them however you like — via an RSS aggregator or just check them whenever you want.
If you plan to do something interesting with them, I’d love to hear about it ;-)
Mini-posts
Mini-posts? What’s that?
As Matt says: The form of a weblog shapes its writing.
Each of my weblog posts has a big title, a date, categories, and other bells and whistles. That’s intentional — it forces me to think carefully about each post so it’s worthy of the fireworks.
Still, there are times I want to post things that don’t need all the fireworks. Short notes, links to articles, reactions, passing thoughts — things that might not interest everyone.
That’s why I created a special category for those: mini-posts.
Each one has a permalink and allows comments. And of course, mini-posts also come with RSS and Atom feeds.
Comment Policy
I want to comment — anything I should know?
Most posts allow comments from readers. The goal is to foster expression, discussion, and diverse voices — the things that make this weblog worthwhile.
But despite the openness, this is still my personal website.
Comments I find inappropriate or offensive will be flagged. That includes flames, trolling, ad hominem attacks against me or others, and unrelated spammy links. Off-topic comments will also be flagged, since they go against the idea of discussion.
Because I’m strongly against censorship, I’ll follow the practices of Sam Ruby and Mark Pilgrim:
Comments won’t be deleted, but they’ll be visually annotated and linked to this paragraph.
For example, a comment like:
This is my opinion, and also you're fatter than an elephant.
…will appear like:
This is my opinion
and also you're fatter than an elephant.
In short…?
Constructive conversation. Exchange of views.
Feel free to speak your mind — just stay on topic and respect others. You know, the basics.
For anything else you want to tell me, on or off topic, feel free to email me.
Can I use HTML in my comment?
Yes! You can use these XHTML tags (required attributes included):
<a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title="">
<b> <blockquote cite=""> <code> <em> <i> <strike> <strong>
Some examples:
<a>for links,<img>for images<em>,<strong>for emphasis<ul>,<li>for lists<blockquote>,<q>for quotes;<code>for computer-related text
Please use valid XHTML! This site aims to be accessible — that means:
- Tags must be lowercase
- Tags must be closed properly
- Attributes must be in quotes
Really though…
Why would anyone care what you believe?
Good question... I keep asking myself the same thing.
